InsurAcademy Graduates: Where are They Now?

InsurAcademy Graduate – Summer 2021

Karen graduated from InsurAcademy in the Summer of 2021 and now works for Bankers Insurance.

What is your job title?  

Claims Accounts Manager  

What are your day-to-day responsibilities?  

My day-to-day responsibilities include speaking with customers who need to file a claim (she specifically deals with homeowner or auto claims). I collect information about when or how the problem happened and what the damages are. Then, I complete the claim forms with all of the client’s information and send the information to the carrier.

Are you enjoying it? And what do you enjoy most about it?  

Yes! I enjoy it quite a bit! The two things I enjoy the most are:  

• Having the ability to make my customer’s negative experiences a little better. When customers need to file a claim, it is not because of a positive thing and the situation is usually very stressful or aggravating for them. I enjoy making this experience go as smoothly as possible. I do my best to help my clients in every way possible and put a positive spin on the situation to help them feel at ease. 
• Working in an environment where I am constantly learning new information. There is an infinite amount of information on insurance and claims to be learned. For example, I was recently in a meeting discussing how we were going to cover and report claims on electric vehicle charging stations. In order to figure those things out, we had to do research and do our best to come up with a plan to protect our clients. It was a really cool topic to learn more about.   

Where do you hope to see your career go in the next couple of years?  

In the next couple of years, I hope to take more courses and get more certifications to further my knowledge in the personal insurance arena. This is my area of interest, so I will work with my employer to grow my knowledge in this area so I can bring my customers the best service possible.

What advice would you give to someone who is just graduated from InsurAcademy?  

When I graduated, I was excited to start in a new industry, however, starting out there was so much information thrown at me, and I was unsure about my knowledge. During the academy they told me “when you get into an agency, they will train you and you will learn more info every day”. So my advice is don’t feel like you have to know everything today. Take a deep breath and learn one more thing each day. 

I also want to say that my coworkers are super helpful, and they have so much different knowledge. We help each other and use each other as assets, so don’t be afraid to reach out to your coworkers for help when you are starting out!
